Search Davidson County Inmate Records

The Davidson County Sheriff's Office runs the county jail and the public inmate search for Nashville. A Davidson County inmate search lets you look up someone in custody by name and open a profile with charges, bond, and booking dates. The Sheriff's active inmate tool, the advanced search, and the recent bookings list all draw from the same jail records system. This page explains how to use the roster, what each profile field means, where the jail facilities sit, and how mail, phone, and visits work. It covers county custody only, not state prison or federal custody.

Davidson County Jail Roster Overview

The Sheriff's Office publishes the active inmate search at dcso.nashville.gov. It covers people currently held in county custody. You can search by name, use the advanced search for more fields, or scan recent bookings from the last 48 hours. The Offender Information Center backs up the online tool and answers questions any hour of the day at 615-862-8123.

The roster has limits. It does not cover people in state prison or federal custody. Someone moved to the Tennessee Department of Correction or the federal system will not appear on the county roster. The roster is also a live view, not a history archive; for old jail records, you use the records center rather than the active search. For state and federal custody, you use the locators covered on the released inmates page.

How to Use the Davidson County Inmate Roster

The search is simple to start. Open the active inmate search and enter a name. If the name is common, the advanced search adds date of birth, OCA, warrant, and CIS number fields to narrow the list. For a very recent arrest, the recent bookings view is faster than a name search.

  1. Open the Sheriff's active inmate search.
  2. Enter a first and last name.
  3. For common names, switch to Advanced Search and add a date of birth or OCA.
  4. Open the matching profile to read charges, bond, and booking dates.

The Sheriff's jail facilities index shows the custody operations behind the search.

The same control number you see in a result is the number used to address mail to that person. It also appears in the recent bookings list and on the full profile, which helps tell apart people with similar names.

Davidson County Inmate Search Fields

The active search keeps the form short, with two name fields and a submit button. The advanced search adds the fields that separate people with similar names. The table below lists the fields on both forms as inspected for this research. The page does not mark the name fields as required, so you can search one or both.

Davidson County Jail Facilities

Booking Process in Davidson County

Booking starts at arrest. The arresting agency sends the booking data into the Sheriff's system, and the profile records several timestamps along the way: admitted date, arrest booking date, medical date, and final booking date. Classification then sets the security level and the housing pod. A medical screening date appears as its own timestamp, though the profile does not show medical detail beyond the date.

A first appearance and bond hearing usually follow quickly. Bond is set per charge, but it can be changed by the court at any time. For a current bond, confirm with the Criminal Court Clerk rather than relying on the online figure, since the posted number can lag behind a recent court ruling.

Visitation, Phone, and Service Schedule

Visits and contact run through approved providers, not a walk-up window. Attorney staff must be pre-approved before a legal visit. Video visits and phone accounts are handled by outside vendors. The schedule below lists the contact services and where each one is set up, drawn from the Sheriff's facility pages.

How to Contact a Davidson County Inmate

Mail rules in Davidson County are strict. Physical mail to a person in custody is scanned and delivered electronically through tablets and kiosks. The Sheriff's Office does not accept books, bibles, magazines, or material mailed from a publisher. Greeting cards with glitter are rejected. Only standard letters, legal mail, standard cards, and certain 35mm photos are processed.

Address mail with the person's name and OCA control number to the Sheriff's PO Box 196383, Nashville, TN 37219-6383. The Sheriff's mail policy page covers the full rules.

Legal mail is verified by contacting the attorney or firm on the return address, and falsifying legal mail can bring criminal charges.

Commissary and Inmate Funds

Money for phone and commissary goes through outside vendors, not a cash window. For Annex phone accounts, the Sheriff lists ICSolutions, online or at 1-888-506-8407, with payment by card, Western Union, or money order. For remote commissary deposits, the Sheriff lists CorrectPay.com or JailATM.com after you set up an account. Both providers offer free mobile apps.

Confirm current fees and limits with the provider before you send money, since vendor terms can change.

Recent Bookings and Release Dates

The Recent Bookings view is a separate list from the name search. It shows arrests from the past 48 hours and updates often. When inspected for this research, it listed 145 bookings in the prior 48 hours. Each row is clickable and opens a full profile through a details button.

The booking rows show the inmate name, race, sex, date of birth with age, control number, admitted date, and a release date column. A blank release date means the person is still in custody. A filled date means they have been released. The list below shows what each booking row carries.

  • Inmate name and control number.
  • Race, sex, and date of birth with age.
  • Admitted date and time.
  • Release date, if released.

VINE Custody Notifications

You do not have to keep checking the roster by hand. Each Davidson County inmate profile links to a VINE notification page built from the person's control number. VINE is a free service that sends custody and release alerts by phone, email, text, or app. It is a useful way to follow a status without repeated manual searches. VINE is for notification, though, not a substitute for certified court records.

Davidson County Inmate Programs

The Sheriff's Office runs a wide set of programs inside its facilities. New Avenues is a licensed alcohol and drug treatment program, established in 1990, with a 45-day focus on substance abuse and reentry. The Offender Re-Entry Center supports work release, education, and job training. Work release participants who do well may qualify for Day Reporting, which lets them live at home while they keep working. AA and NA meetings run in all detention facilities, along with parenting, wellness, and decision-making classes.

The inmate programs page lists treatment, education, and reentry options in detail.
